The July 15 Watchtower and all its new light is only...
by sosoconfused inmaking people cling to the organization more.
when i found out it was up i told so many people frantically that there is a new study article up and that it had so many changes.
my mother started crying saying how happy she is to be a part of an organization that is truly directed by jehovah... only the true faithful and discreeet slave could have such insight.... another person began to say how great it is to see the celestial chariot on the move.. .

Who needs the Bible or Jesus when there's the "Governing Body"?
This is truly another "golden calf" moment for WT corporation. They certainly cannot claim that they don't have a clergy and heirarchy anymore.

My latest university experience...
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inthis isn't a jw experience, but for those of you that have been following my life, i thought i'd have a drink and share this strange event in my post-jw life.. for you wonderful newbies, you can catch up on highlights of my story in the few threads i've started here.
i'm finishing the junior year of my engineering degree and the classes are hard as hell.
i used to be among the smartest students in the room until i hit the 300 level university courses.

And I just got another email, this time from a professor I don't personally know. The professor teaching my physical chemistry class recommended me as a research assistant within the Chemistry department. I'm in the Engineering department, so I wouldn't have expected they'd consider me, particularly when there are so many chem and biochem majors. This would be with nanoscale and molecular systems.
I guess lightning can strike me twice in the same week. Maybe I should buy some lottery tickets?

Clawing out of poverty via (E)ducation, not education
by MTSman inokay, so i've been what i believe is called a, "lurker", on this site for about four years.
i honestly don't remember how i stumbled on to it, but i totally get everyone here.
i'm a, "born in", pinoneered for like six-teen years, servered where the need is great several times, and even went to the, as the name alludes to, mts before it became a watered down theocratic ministry school.

"I tried putting MTS, and my trade as a pioneer on my resume and was shocked when I found out it didn't mean jack shit outside in the real world-I had no REAL marketable skills"
I remember that moment of realization.
Best of luck in all your pursuits.

Immoral sleeping arrangement?
by hoser ini'm reading through the watchtower rule book right now and i came to the chapter clarification and guidelines on handling certain matters.
there is a part about scriptural divorce and even if adultery is not proved if your ex stayed all night or is involved in an immoral sleeping arrangement you can get scriptural grounds to remarry.. .
they make a rule, then they have to make a rule for the rule, make another rule for the rule for the rule.

"it may be that the Christian was involved in an immoral sleeping arrangement."
So they haven't realized yet that sex doesn't necessarily involve sleeping? There doesn't even have to be a bed, from what I've discovered.
"For example, were the two persons alone?"
Did they have a camera that monitored their respective private parts during the time that they were alone? If they weren't two alone, was there a threesome? If a dog or cat is there, are they really "alone"? How many other questions can be created?
"Were the individuals together all night?"
So, since my first time only took a few minutes, it doesn't count as "immoral", right?
"... the mate stayed all night in the same house with a person of the opposite sex (or a known homosexual) under improper circumstances."
Isn't there also a danger of unknown homosexuals? If there was anything I learned from George Couch's morning worship comments, it was that guys wrestling in their underwear or giving each other backrubs would automatically lead to full-frontal homosexing. So dubs should never spend any time alone with anyone, except perhaps their mate. Otherwise, everyone should have a chaperone at all times. And a chaperone-chaperone, to make sure nothing happens between the dub and their first chaperone. Then to make sure there is no accidental threesome, there really should be a chaperone^3.

Disfellowshipped from Bethel??
by gma-tired2 inmy question is it harder to be reinstated if you were disfellowshipped while at bethel.
i have someone who i worry about because of fear what he might do?
he has been denied at least twice even though he goes to all meeting and has tried so hard..
-
Billy the Ex-Bethelite
As with any judicial committee, things can be random, depending on the unqualified idiots serving as "elders". If he's already been denied twice, it looks to me like it's not going to come easily. And if he does get reinstated there, they'll take forever to let him start commenting, handling microphones, etc. It's hard to tell whether the problem is the brothers at bethel or at the local congregation. If it's the local congregation, he could try moving and starting all over. What a waste of time for him.

how do you cope with the stress of fading?
by brainmelt ini'm really struggling with it.
i've been learning the ttatt for the past 6 months now and i've been inadvertantly fading - either one of us or the children have had coughs/colds/flu/chicken pox/stress over the past 3 months which has meant we've missed a lot of meetings and field service with good reason.
we've only been out in service twice this year, so far no ones mentioned it to us but i'm waiting for our group overseer to bring it up anytime soon.

Good advice already.
" I have days where I just cry all day - specifically Fridays, where I'm dreading the weekends - meetings/ministry/guilt of missing ministry."
This kinda reminds me of the "self-destruct mechanism" that WT builds into us when we try to leave. Rather than rejoicing at the thought of finally being liberated from their oppression and abuse, we feel depression and dread because WT has always told us that without them our lives would be terrible. Leaving WT, our lives would horribly fall apart and we'd come crawling back to them or die some terrible death. Frankly, the vast majority of exJWs go on to live good lives, and plenty of JWs that stay in the cult live terrible lives that fall apart and they die some terrible death.
If you have the chance to get professional counselling, go for it. Otherwise, from my purely amateurish opinion, it sounds like you are fading rather nicely and can have a smile on Fridays since you don't have the hassle of wasting your weekend recruiting for and getting brainwashed by a cult. And rather than stressing out about possible confrontations with family, realize that you don't have to rush into any decisions or completely expose your every thought to your family. Armageddon isn't coming tomorrow with baby Jesus slicing you open if you leave the JWs or if you stay for the time being. And if anyone gives you a hard time about JW inactivity just tell them that you've been suffering from "surprise diarrhea" or "explosive flatulence" and the doctor has recommended that you stay away from crowds until you find medication that works.

Thanks for the comments and encouragement! Best wishes to all you other students! And hearty encouragement to any of you considering "higher education."
JonH: My other mistake was taking too many classes. Earlier semesters, I could handle 18 credit hours and pull As in all of them. Last semester I did 15 credit hours, which was too many. Now I'm doing 12, and it's still a challenge. Hang in there and keep your love for learning.
fakesmile: Some days the classes are my bitch. Other days, I'm their bitch. In any case, the classes and I keep meeting for these sessions.
laverite: He stressed that this shouldn't be priority for me, but that I can work it around whatever my schedule is through summer, fall, whenever. I agree that I think it is a HUGE break for me. Although this will take time, I think it will be a welcome change to have academic stimulation that doesn't involve cramming for exams, mindlessly rereading dozens of pages of complex and forgetable equations, or doing tedious lab experiments that have already been done by thousands of students before me. This will be graduate level stuff that's never been fully researched and documented.
Just to give a "gee whiz" picture of one of the several projects, is researching the seeming anti-gravitational antics of non-newtonian fluids. Here's two examples of the weirdness non-newtonian fluids:

koncep99: If it is Satan and demonic foul play that has made my life worth living, I'm loving it! I've been playing for the wrong team for WAY too long!
AArabia: I've done math through Differential Equations (got a C) and Linear Algebra (got an A). One more math class and I'll qualify for a math minor, but I don't think I'll get it done. Statics, as far as statics for civil or mechanical engineers, isn't a required course for chemical engineering. But we do have fluid statics. This professor is teaching my second course in fluid mechanics.
BOC: That's an interesting experience. Between your hard work and the blessings of Satan and his demon hoards, you'll do great! LOL
Slavenomore: I just checked and saw that the professor now has links to his previous work on the department website, so I've got some reading to do. Old threads started here. I was in bethel for over a decade, and was in a position to get to know most all of the GB 2.0 members, none of which I would buy a used car from. I've been out of bethel about 7 years. Haven't been inside a KH in a year and a half now.
moshe: I was sick with a cold during most of spring break, but here on the Internet I can pretend that I partied like a rock star!
rebel8: Well, I suppose WT taught me how to speak publicly when I had nothing worth saying. Now that I have something worth talking about, I have a new world of opportunity.
Defianttruth: I've completed 2 thermodynamics courses so far, with 2 more to go. Besides the fact that most of it I'll never see again, nobody is ever going to pay me money to solve some theoretical system like what's presented in exams.
CHG: Going to study in Norway for your summer?!? So cool.
